While traveling on Interstate 40, we thought it would be nice to know, that there's a treasure that waits for you, for those who want something interesting to do. Some call it getting "your kicks on Route 66", but locals call it the Oatman Highway. It doesn't matter what they say, it's still a "good old American byway."

While going down Interstate 40, it doesn't matter what your driving, anymore. The important thing to remember, is to get off on Exit 44. Turning on "Shinarump Road", go about .3 mile. Turn left on Oatman Highway (old US Route 66). Go 14.4 miles until you come to your destination. Along the way, you will pass several "washes".... Sacramento Wash, Secret Pass Wash and Meadow Creek Wash, where there is a dip in the road. Watch for Burros who roam wild and free and also cattle who have Open Range. When you have gone the correct mileage, you will arrive at "Cool Springs Cabins & Tasty Foods", which is an old Mobil service station. It is now a Route 66 Museum, gift shop and a good place to pause for a little refreshment. Outside you will see several old gasoline pumps, an old green 50's Chevy pickup truck and a Memorial Garden near the back. You will also see an old rusted out car sitting on it's body. No tires, no axel, no glass....just a rusted body. Look on the passenger side near the back and under the rear fender. There you will find "Midnight Desert Bloom". Enjoy the contents, please take care to securely close the bags and box and replace in the same spot, under the fender. Then go inside and buy yourself a Route 66 Root Beer... made from Cane sugar..Yum, Yum!!! it's delicious and very refreshing. Also take notice of the area... your liable to "hear" and maybe see those wild Burros nearby. If you continue on several miles, you will arrive in Oatman, Arizona... an old mining town where everyday, like clockwork, those Burro friends come to town for a carrot handout. PLEASE don't feed the babies any carrots. They don't chew and it causes digestive problems for them...Have a Great Day!!!
