This LB has again gone missing. We will update when we replace it.

The View From Here letterbox is located on the service road/bike path/walking path that follows the Cape Cod Canal. It is on the mainland side of the canal, and is located approximately 2 miles west of the Herring Run recreational area, and 1.5 miles east of the Railroad Bridge over the canal.

Any of the parking areas along the canal is a suitable spot to start your search – it all depends on how far you would like to walk, bike, run, etc.

Please note no motorized vehicles are allowed on the service road.

The letterbox, due to its small size, does not contain an ink pad or a pen. Please bring these items with you. Also due to the small size of the letterbox, the logbook is small, limiting the size of the stamp that can be stamped.

Approximately every 5th telephone pole along the canal has been numbered with large numbers. These markings are your points of reference.

As you travel along the canal from your starting place, note the beauty of the area. Be on the lookout for pleasure boats of all sizes, and also commercial boat traffic – maybe a large oil barge, or perhaps a cruise ship. Watch for fishermen trying their luck, or lobstermen pulling their traps (at low tide).

Depending on the season, you may see herring (perhaps leaping from the water to escape a hungry striped bass or bluefish), or rarely, a seal. And there are always the gulls and cormorants to watch.

Locate the bench between poles numbered 285 and 290. The Bourne Bridge is visible from this location. Take a seat on the left end of the bench (left end when you are sitting on the bench). Enjoy the view from here.

While sitting on the end, reach your right hand underneath the bench where the front of the bench meets the bench support. What you seek is here – balanced on the support is a cannister (it's black, and is smaller than a film canister).

Please be very discreet while removing and replacing this box – the service road is heavily travelled all year, but especially during the warmer months. I have tried to configure the box so that it doesn't roll, but please be careful when replacing the box, being sure it won't roll off of the support.

Please email me with your thoughts about this letterbox.
