It's possible to walk or bike across the Connecticut River from Old Lyme to Old Saybrook (or vice versa!)along the Baldwin Bridge. One stamp of Connecticut was cut in half with one half residing on either side of the river. Leave room for the other half when you do the first one.
Find your way to the "Pedestrian and Bike Route to Bridge" sign in Old Lyme. (No, I'm not going to tell you where it is. I usually only put out mysteries!) I will tell you to park in a public lot and cross carefully! Follow the walkway until you almost get onto the bridge and take a right onto a tarred pathway on the right. As you descend note a stone wall on your left. Twelve feet from the far end of the wall, there is an angular stone sticking out a bit. Look behind it. You only need to remove one rock to get the box.
After getting the box, you can continue winding downhill to a small park along the river with great views, go back to the main path and continue over the bridge for "West of the River", or go back to your car for a drive across the Connecticut.
