There is three ways up Mt.tom to reach this box.All are moderate to difficult. The first is Mountain Park Service RD. off of Rt.5. Park at the fence and walk up the road toward the old Mt.Tom ski area until you come to a fenced power transfer station on the left.Take a left just after up the service road to Mt.Tom.A long steady climb on a paved road. About a 3hour round trip. Stop and visit the monument for the service men that lost their lives in a crash on Mt. Tom. At electric pole #22 go right over the rock ledge and the path to a clearing at the edge of Mt.Tom. As you look down below you will see a culdesac with a big brown house at the end. Turn your back to the view and look straight over a big rock and you will see a hole in an oak tree. The sun is in the hole covered by bark. Another path starts just before the Log Cagin on Rt. 141.It is the steepest path and is about a 2 hour round trip. There is a place to park along side the road on either side. Follow the path to the top past the towers and continue on the Mt. to Mt. path marked in white till you come to the same clearing. The third path starts inside Mt Tom Reservation. There is a place to park on the right just before the stone house coming from Rt. 141 or just after the stone house on the left coming from the Rt5.side.Follow the Mt. to Mt. trail marked in white. About a 3 to 4 hour round trip.Any way you go enjoy the views and visit the remains of the Mt. Tom Hotel by the towers. The Mount Tom Hotel was constructed on the summit of Mount Tom in 1897, but it burned down three years later. Subsequently rebuilt, it burned again in 1929 and was never rebuilt but the foundation and railing are still there.
