Every year we take a winter vacation. We live in MA and love winter!! While most of our friends head south, time2retire and I head north to Canada and the Winter Carnivals. We have been to Quebec (the first and the biggest), Montreal, Ottawa, and Magog. Although, the carnival at Magog is smaller and more intimate, it is better then the large, crowded, urban festivals. It has amazing snow and ice sculptures, ice skating, dog sled rides, traditional foods and drinks and great evening entertainment. Because it is hosted by the town and isn't a money making event, the festival and events are all free! Magog is a quaint little French/English speaking town that's great to visit in both winter and summer. Being situated only 30 miles over the border, its the gateway to Canada. What a great way to enjoy our neighbor to the North!

To find your warm winter reward, make your way to Parc Merry at Rue Principale and Rue Merry N. Enter the park and look for the silver signal box next to the tracks. What you seek is down below at the far right corner at the rear resting on the concrete footing. During the summer, there are muggles galore as Magog is a resort destination for Montrealers.

The day we planted this, it was 86 degrees but if you look during the festival, be prepared to come out of the cold as it sometimes gets to -4 degrees before the wind. Brrrr!
