**RETIRED**

The Phoenix is a mythical bird which lives a long life then is consumed by flames only to rise again from the ashes. This beautiful scarlet and gold bird is synonymous with rebirth or recovery, especially after calamity.
The Smith Mellennium Covered Bridge is a structural phoenix. Originally built in 1790, the bridge has been built and rebuilt 5 times. The bridge was washed away by flood in 1850 and completely destroyed by fire in 1993. Faced with no longer having a revered covered bridge in their community, the town's folk voted unanimously to rebuild. On June 8, 2001, the new bridge reopened. This beloved favorite has risen out of the ashes and will live on for another 150 years before it needs any major restoration work.

To find Phoenix: Take Rte. 93 exit 26 (3A). Go 2 1/2 miles on 3A, right on Smith Bridge Rd. until you see the bridge (about a 1/2 mile). Due to high muggle activity (swimmers in summer) go through the bridge to the south end, look due east to find a storage trailer in the field on the left. From the tongue end of trailer, look 340 degrees for a single balsam fir, look right for 2 birches. Your prize is under the 2nd birch from the balsam under some sticks and pine needles. After logging in, grab your bathing suit, towel and cool off! The stamp, the log book and the first finders prizes were sent to me by Judithandsparky. Time2retire found this great hiding place. The spot he picked is as great as the stuff they sent! Thanks a million!!!
