The Emerald Triangle Letterbox acknowledges the three Northern California counties which are allegedly the three biggest marijuana growing counties in the USA: Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity Counties.

There are several routes to Lake Mendocino, but to access the Emerald Triangle letterbox from Hwy. 101 take the Lake Mendocino exit several miles north of Ukiah. From the exit turn in the direction of Montana and at the light turn left onto North State Street. At the next light turn right on to Lake Mendocino Drive. Continue on Lake Mendocino Drive until you see the South Boat Ramp sign and the small parking area to your right. If it’s full drive down to the larger parking lot down the hill. From the small parking area walk over and above the lake.

Hike over the dam and turn left and onto the Kaweyo Trail. Stay on the main trail, pass the arrow, pass the trail sign. Go up and then soon after the hairpin turn note the wooden trail erosion board which doesn’t have much of a function any more. Walk about 35 steps further to the pathway rubber-like erosion control fabric. If you come to a second erosion control fabric turn back to the first. From there sight 160 degrees and to the right. Walk the twelve steps off trail to the oak. Hidden at its base on the west side inside the cavity behind some rocks you will find the Emerald Triangle Letterbox.

Thanks for coming and please close box tightly and replace carefully so it's well hidden.
