This clue is part of the Urbana Park District’s Wild About Parks Quest--celebrating the Anita Purves Nature Center’s 30th anniversary. The Quest runs 6/13/09-6/12/10, but the boxes will remain in place indefinitely. Prizes can be won during the Quest for those who find 10, 20, and 30 boxes. Those who locate all 30 will be entered into a grand prize drawing. For more information, and for clue booklets, visit www.urbanaparks.org.

Greek Revival Cottage
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 10-15 minutes

Enter the park from the parking lot just off of University Avenue. Take the path that leads you through the Leal Gazebo and up to the cottage. Be sure to note the dedication plaque to Darius E. Phebus just west of the cottage entrance. Behind you stands a bicentennial tree, which has towered over the park for over 200 years. Next take a stroll on the path on the eastside of the cottage. Observe the architecture of the cottage as you make your way around to the back of the building. Did you know you’re looking at the oldest residence on record in Urbana? Walk carefully down the loading path and examine the lilies (summer & spring) or mulch (fall & winter) to your left. You will find this park’s letterbox hidden on the other side of the wall structure.

Note: Please be mindful of the landscaping when removing the box from its hiding. Also try and be discreet when removing and re-hiding this box.
