"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." -Henry David Thoreau
The Connecticut Audubon Society in Greenfield Hills in Fairfield, Connecticut. If you walk some distance along the Deer Meadow Trail, nearby Black Pond, you will come upon a crumbling foundation of a small house. I do not know its history, but, every time I pass it, I imagine the house, fully restored, with a whisp of smoke curling from its chimney, and, its sole occupant, the great man, Henry Thoreau sitting at his desk, facing the setting eastern skyline, with quill in hand, tapping out the those momentous lines of self discovery.
