Time: about 45 minutes
Terrain: Easy/Moderate
The Fuzzy Fern Letterbox at Groveland's Town Forest.
This letterbox was created and planted by fourth grade students as part of a school project to increase peoples’ awareness and use of Groveland’s public spaces. We hope you enjoy the area. Please check out the other Groveland letterboxes made by the Fuzzy Ferns’ classmates.
Take Seven Star Road in Groveland to Wood Street. As you are going up a hill, the trail entrance to the Town Forest is to your left. Continue up the hill, turn around before the white farmhouse and find a place to park safely on the right side of the road.
1. Look for a green sign on Wood Street that says “Land Protected by Groveland Conservation Commission.”
2. Follow the trail past another sign into the Town Forest. The sign is white.
3. Walk through a bunch of trees that don’t have a lot of leaves.
4. Look for a foot bridge that goes over a pool of mud.
5. At the fork in the trail, bear left through the ferns.
6. Walk over one tiny overgrown walls of stone.
7. A stone wall will soon be on your left. The trail will go through it.
8. At the Y, go left down hill and towards the swamp.
9. Crossing the path to the left are two giant fallen trees that crisscross pointing to a swamp. Walk to the closest one.
10. In a cave, of a million roots your box awaits you covered with a rock.
11. Go back the way you came. When you get to a T in the trail take the left trail and go uphill.
12. When you can see the bridge, take a left at the T to cross it again. Soon you'll be back where you started from.
