Way back in 1971, long before saving the Earth became a global concern, Dr. Seuss speaking through his character the Lorax , warned against mindless progress and the danger it posed on the Earth's natural beauty. He was truely a man before his time. This series is dedicated to Theodor Seuss Geisel and his timeless classic, The Lorax.

To find this series, make your way to Sessions Woods Wildlife Area on Route 69 in Burlington. This is a 3 mile hike, mostly on the gravel Beaver Pond trail. There is much to see at Sessions Woods. You can print a detailed map on their website showing everything they have to offer. It's a great reference. Print one before you go. There is only one logbook for this series, located in the final box. Bring black ink.

After parking, start out on the Beaver Pond trail on the north side of the parking lot. Follow the trail past the Tree ID trail and the Crosscut trail, both on the left. Shortly after the Crosscut trail the blue trail heads into the woods on the right. Take the blue trail into the woods. Continue on blue for a short way, until you see three white birch trees, fairly close together on the left side of the trail. There is a blue blazed black birch on the right side at this point, and a rotted stump behind the blue blazed tree. You will find Brown Bar-ba-loots here, behind the stump.

Retrace your steps back to the gravel path and continue on right. You'll be passing by the Beaver Marsh, the Boardwalk, and the Viewing Blind, all on the right. After the Viewing Blind, take the trail to the Fire Tower on the left, staying left whenever you have a choice. Pass the Esker and Kame signboards and up ahead you will see the tower. On your way up the hill, spot a hemlock trailside on the left. You will find Swo-mee Swans here. Make sure to check out the view from the tower before you head back.

Retrace your steps back onto the gravel trail and continue on left. Your next stop is the trail to the Waterfall on the right. Follow this trail and head down the steps to the waterfall. Take some time to explore around and enjoy the sites. When you are ready to continue on, head back up the steps, stopping at the second step from the bottom. Turn around and face the water. From here take a reading of 270 degrees ( rightish) and head up the hill about 30 steps to a large oak with a small moss covered rock in front of it and a cutout at the bottom. Humming-Fish are hiding here. Please watch your footing on the hill. The leaves and rocks can be slippery.

Head back up the steps and back to the Beaver Pond trail. Go right and soon you will see a sign on the right for the trail to the stream. Take the trail down to the water. When you get to the water, go left to the signboard. After reading about the stream, turn left to a moss covered rock. You will find the Lorax behind this rock. Please be careful not to damage the Mountain Laurel when retrieving the box.

Head back up to the gravel trail and continue on right. Soon you will be back to the parking lot, but there's lots more to see along the way. Check out the Summer House on your way back. Hope you enjoyed your visit with the Lorax and Company!!
