The Summer in New England was a wash for the first time in many years. It finally showed up long about August 15th. To the kids dismay, the count down had begun: back to school sales, classroom assignment letters, vacations ending. When would it all end? The stress was mounting as the anticipation began. "Who's in my class? Will I like my teacher? Will I miss the bus again on the first day? What will I wear?" Oh, the anxiety! Oh, the torment! Being the grandmom with those wild days long behind me, I packed up my beach stuff and my favorite book and headed to the lake. No hassle, no fuss! Just pure, wonderful relaxation. Now that's how those last days of Summer should be spent!

Make your way to the Leominster State Forest on Rte. 31S from Rte. 2. Pass the park office on your right. All year except during the summer: continue along past the main gate on your left. Turn left into the 2nd parking lot at the Entering Princeton sign (Crow Hill Pond picnic area). Park near the map and casually stroll down to No Swimming. Turn right and take your time as you amble peacefully near the pond's edge stopping when you see the tall, dead "I'm Lichen It" tree (no Golden Arches, here) on your right, continue calmly on 18 paces further to the "sunburnt and wicked peeling" three sisters. "Get back to their roots" and you'll find some great last days of Summer advice to savour and enjoy. The "some of the peeling" makes a great cover up!

From the beginning of June to mid September, use the main entrance and hike past the swimming area following the trail to the causeway, cross then turn left into the 2nd picnic area, watch for No Swimming on your left. Fee area in Summer.
