KIRBY LAKE, KIDS
(Yuck! It’s NOT the Muck.)

From the corner of Rts. 1 and 52, follow Rt 52 Lincolnville Ave. into Belfast, passing Hannaford on your left. You’ll come to a small pond on the right just after passing Miller St.
Park in the parking area of this “lake” which used to be a water supply for city fire protection.

Walk along the paved sidewalk to the left (northern) end of the pond until you find a wood chip covered path. Follow this path around the pond crossing 3 wooden bridges.

Just before the 4th bridge, find a natural pathway to the left of the path. Bear to the left on this path for a total of about 17 steps.

Look to the right to find a fallen tree and twisted vines that look like a brush pile. A moss covered log on the ground below this pile hides this box.

Not a handmade stamp (sorry) but one depicting one of our favorite insects found at this pond.

If you bring along binoculars you may sight many species of birds in this area.

This is a spring-fed pond that’s a great ice skating area, so come back in the winter for some outdoor fun!

This box has been vandalized. To be replaced later in summer of '11.
