NOTE: When it rains this trail gets very muddy. It is a nice hike to go on with a family that enjoys hiking. Bring your camera with you for a beautiful view at the top of the trail. There are some steep inclines and boulders. At a good pace it should take between 40 minutes to an hour each way. The total distance is 2.2 miles round trip.
Clues:
Park in the parking lot across the street from the Inn at Long Trail. Be careful crossing Rt 4. Enter the blue trail to the right. Follow the signs to Deer Leap Overlook. The blue markings will fade for a little while but continue on the path and the markings will re-appear on a tree filled with engravings from previous hikers.

At the sign, follow the Appalachian Trail South, the markers change to white rather than blue. At the T junction make a left onto the blue trail marked Deer Leap Overlook. At the next junction continue straight on the blue trail with the signs directing you to Deer Leap Overlook. You will continue for about .3 miles and then come across a flight of wooden steps. Take them and continue to the first sign and stop just before the boulders at the sign in front of you. Take a left into the woods and walk about 17 steps diagonally to the big boulder in front of you. Go around to the right of the boulder and you will see a crack in the boulder on your left. The letterbox is hidden there. Then go on to enjoy the beautiful views of Killington and Pico.
