Peace is costly, and this installment of it will cost you two pounds of black sunflower-seed bird food. Bring it along—this is mandatory—as part of your disguise, and ideally also acquire a couple of small children whose activities will direct attention away from your own. A picnic is optional but nice.

To partake in humanity’s quest for world peace, take I-90 westbound toward Spokane, WA. Exit at the Hamilton Street ramp and continue north on Hamilton. Turn right at a tiny street called Marietta, and within mere blocks you will achieve a peace which was established in 1976. Find the shining white multi-lingual monument and pause for a moment of silence. It’s possible this moment will be anything but silent, because a copper-colored bird buffet hangs within 40 feet of you, and it is probably in cacophonous use. Go there, after first setting loose your child companions; instruct them to laugh and shriek disarmingly.

This is the tricky part. You are going to replenish the buffet while trying to hide the fact that you are removing the magnetized bottom plate to reveal a hidden compartment. The magnets are very strong, and you have to lift, rather than slide, the plate away, or you’ll damage the poorly-installed gasket which hides a gap in the metal.

So. It’s up to you whether you pour in the bird seed here or take the whole contraption to your car to fill it. Either way, be ultra-sneaky, try not to look like a drug dealer. To take the feeder down, dial LBNA as for a text message. This is the most highly-muggle-able box I’ve ever planted, and it’s taken me a year to complete it, and I won’t have the heart to replace it if it dies.
