Updated Aug. 20, 2014 due to trail blockage and newly created trails.

This is a puzzle letterbox. The first four microboxes (35 mm film canisters) each contain one hieroglyphic. Put together and rearranged, the four letters will spell a clue word needed to find a bonus box. The logbook contains a word in hieroglyphics that gives you an extra clue to the word spelled out in the microboxes. You will need to bring a copy of the hieroglypic alphabet.

Take Greenwood Ave. off of Hart Street in Beverly. Go to the end and park along Stoneridge Rd.

Walk past the chain link barrier to the green gate that may or may not be open. Immediately after the gate, take the trail at 25˚. Follow the trail for about 5-6 minutes. The trail is currently marked with blue circles. It will bear right and uphill. After a tree with the #5, the trail bears left and down. It looks like a trail enters from the right – ignore it. Continue left and uphill. At the Y, go 315˚. Markers should be red now. Pass a tree with a #9/P4. A stone wall is on the right. A trail will enter through the wall on the right. Continue straight ahead. A biker trail heads off to the right, ignore it. Continue down the rocky trail. Pay attention. Walk between three beech trees and a beech tree and a pine. Count 19 steps. A twin sister tree is on the left and another is about 6ft behind it. Box 1 is in a hollow (about 12” off the ground) of a tree in front of you as you walk behind the second twin sister tree.

Return to the trail and continue in the same direction as before. Cross a short boardwalk. At the top of the hill, bear left to stay on the trail. Go down hill. A stone wall will be infront of you. Go 210˚. There are several muddy areas. Stay right and go through the stone wall to avoid the first wet area. There are a couple more muddy wet areas. A small boardwalk goes over a tiny stream. Bear left. Cross over a couple more bridges/boardwalks. At the T go 310˚. About 112 steps along the trail is what looks like a rocky wash at 270˚. Go up the rocky wash trail. You may notice some metal blue arrows pointing in the direction you are coming from. Look for some huge boulders on the left with two trees down in front of them. An L shaped tree is on the right. Walk behind the L tree. The second box is tucked under the front of the L. Rehide well.

Continue on the trail in the same direction as before. Head downhill. At the T/Y take the trail at 305˚. At the next T take the trail at 280˚. A tree on the left has a green mark. Continue and bear right to the new trail and over the new bridge. The trail winds up and around making several S bends. At the “top” of the trail, you will reach a big stone wall. Cross the stone wall. About 25 steps later you’ll see a burned snag with stones and boulders piled around it. If you are so inclined, there is a geocache in this location. After walking around the huge boulder on the left, notice a 6’ snag at the end of it. The third box is in the snag.

Continue in the direction you were going. Cross over rock faces X3. Make a U across the next and biggest rock face so far. Cross another rock face and make an S over the next one. At the T go 90˚. Go through a stone wall with a cool burned tuning fork tree and over a bridge. Crest the hill and begin descending the other side. Look for a 2 sister tree on the right with a 3 sister almost parallel to it across the trail. The fourth box is in the 3 sister tree.

Continue down the hill. Cross over a boardwalk. Continue to a small bridge. Turn left on the dirt road.

A small stream (depending on the season) may be running to your left. Ignore any trails heading up the hill. At the Y go 115˚. You are on the main trail. Keep your eyes open. Just past a large evergreen tree close to the trail with 2 trunks, one a tall snag, take the trail at 210˚. Walk 24 steps. Turn left and walk over the fallen log off the trail. The logbook and extra clue stamp are tucked in a hole under the stump the tree is resting on. Tuck the box snuggly back into its hole when you are done.

Rearrange the first four hieroglyphics to make a word that makes sense to you based on the clue word stamp with the log book. Return to the main trail and continue in the same direction as before looking for the object. When you see it, walk to it. Enter the woods at 200˚. Go about 30 steps and stop. Look up to the large pine tree with a small pine growing directly in front and to the left. You’ll find the bonus box in the roots of the large pine. Please rehide well. The hieroglyphics on the bonus stamp say: Peace, Prosperity, and Health – a good ending to your quest. Go back to the main trail and head in the direction you were going to reach your car.
