UPDATED: 01/13/2021 complete maintenance. All alive and well, some moved to new location.

Park at the north end of Mineral Wells Picnic area by Griffith Park Drive. Cross the street at the horse x-ing to the trail and turn left heading up the steep hill where the animals like to race. Don't worry this is the worst (steepest) part of the entire trail (also a steep section going to box 6). Even if you are moving slow, you should catch up with our first animal friend moving...

(1) "At a Snail's Pace". You will find him a short ways uphill past the trail turnout on the right in the center base of the multi-trunk tree on right side of trail, where the condor soars. The animals continue to race uphill climbing and finally leveling off where the trail forks (slight trail to the right near a 3-4 foot stump). It is here that we meet our second animal friend...

(2) "Ahead by a Hare". You will find him 12 steps at 200 degrees from the big tree stump at the trail fork, under a pile of rocks and leaves. At the fork go right down...

(3) "Racoon Alley". The trail dips down then back up to two trees at the end of the lane. Down to your left you should see where we are sometimes imprisoned. You will find our third animal friend partaking in his favorite pastime 100 degrees 20 feet from the 2 eucalyptuses at end of trail. Behind a dead bush at base and under a rock. Return to the main trail and continue right. As you begin downhill flying past you out of control, on 12 wheels, is the...

(4) "Skating Bovine" who flew over the ridge behind the rock wall near the yellow hydrant, at the northwest end, under the last cement slab behind rocks and grass. Continuing on down on just two wheels making the hairpin turn to the left at the gate is our next friend. Hot and dry he heads down the trail to the right at the intersection in search of water. He coasts on down the trail as it is parallel to a water pipe. At the bottom of the hill he spots a hydrant, but it is dry...

(5) "Fishy Freind" giving up hope on making it to the river he rests behind the burnt multi trunk tree 80 feet at 200 degrees from the hydrant. Return back to the main trail and head right. Rock on up the trail, now in pursuit of our wildest friend. Keep climbing up the trail towards the top.

(6) "Rockin' Rabbit" can be found another 100 steps up from where the other trail merges in from the left, up to a pair of short pipes on the right. This is where he normally performs for all to hear, but you may find him napping at the back of the multi trunk tree across the trail at about 132 degrees.

It is a short 15 minute downhill walk to return to your vehicle. Continue on the trail and stay left, avoiding the hairpin turn to the right (Western Ave), and avoid the next fork right (Skyline). The trail continues downhill and stay right at the fork down to Griffith Park Drive. You can then walk left down the road to the parking area. If you prefer you can cross the road and take the trail left (Mineral Wells Trail) down to the parking area (I did not try this path, but appears to go thru).
