Because of a confrontation with a hunter recently, I went on the Forest and Parks web site looking for relocation directions and ran across the relocation of the Metacomet Trail in Plainville. A two mile section now leads from New Britain to the old section going to Ledge Road (now blazed blue/red) shortening the road walk by 0.4 mi.

The official parking spot is on the south side of route 372 east of the railroad tracks at a gravel pullover area (this is near where the trail continues north bound) but that involves a road walk along 372 to Wooster St, to Black Rock Rd, to Esther St. So we parked along the edge of Esther St.
This walk is a mile and a half round trip. No brown ink in box.

Head uphill following the nice new blue blazes (crossing a few small streams) until you get to a “dike” like area. Go left along this flat stretch until you see a metal gate ahead of you, turn right, cross a concrete bridge and then left to reenter the woods. This isn’t the most pleasant walk with traffic noises, Tilcon plant noises and rocky path but it was interesting. Notice the blue blaze at the end of a cut tree (I found this amusing). Soon after this you’ll walk between two split rocks (one on each side of the trail). Look low and left of the split of the one on the left. There’s also a very large root system of a blown down tree near this rock. If you come to the old woods road, you went too far.
