Directions to Kellogg Environmental Center:
From Rte. 8 (North and South)
- take exit 15
- at end of ramp, turn left onto Main St. (Rte. 34)
- continue West on Rte. 34 for about 1.5 miles
- take a right onto Lakeview Terrace (there is a sign for Kellogg Center at the corner)
- continue to stop sign at the end of the road
- turn left at stop sign, parking lot is on your left.

We recommend you print out the map first before you go... just easier..
Trail map can be found at http://www.ct.gov/dep/lib/dep/stateparks/maps/osbogis.pdf

Head Northeast out of the parking area and cross at the crosswalk to the field entrance. Stay to the right and go over the wooden bridge and around to the other side of the pond. Proceed very slowly and keep your distance if there are geese, they will eventually wander into the pond or the field if you give them time.. Staying to the right you will go up a short steep hill”bump” and out into a field with a four way mowed intersection. Go left at the intersection and walk to the trailhead. Go straight and enter the red trail. Follow red trail straight. *Caution- may be muddy at times.. * you want to follow red trail for a little bit.

Box #1

The Warbler trail is coming up on the left with a bridge. Stop at the first flat rock at the start of the warbler trail. Standing on top of this rock, take a reading of 170 degrees. Find the tree growing out of the rock, and the first box Balloon Box is here. Please take caution as to this is next to the trail and people are on the trail all the time.

Box #2

Continue straight on Red trail. You will come to a stream usually there are boards used to cross stream. Don’t get wet !!!! Continue on the red trail until you come upon the yellow trail to the right. You will come up to a bridge and as your on top of the bridge, you must sing “Happy Birthday” to the troll who lives under the bridge. After that, continue over the bridge and stop at the first sister tree on the left. Stop and take a reading of 185 degrees on your compass. Box #2 Candle Box is hidden behind a pile of rocks.
Stamp. Conceal, Continue….

Box #3

Continue up yellow trail. Upon climbing up hill when it flattens out you will cross a little stream, and come up to “14”. Take a right down blue trail. Continue on blue trail, crossing thru a stone wall. * Mud may be a factor here also. Watch your step… * follow blue trail. As you walk through the evergreen forest you will continue on blue. You will come up to a sister tree marked with a blue dot. This is your tree. From here you will take out your compass and site 110 degrees as you look through the sister trees. You will see a large over hanging boulder with a slim tree growing out of the rocks. Box #3 is here at the base of this tree, under the rock.

From here your on your own… Im just kidding… follow the blue trail(south). The blue trail then heads downhill. Under a fallen tree. Be careful it’s a little crazy when I was there, trees were all down all over the place. The blue trail will intersect with the red trail. Follow the Red trail to the left(south). You will then come to the “15”. Your almost there. Continue to go straight down the hill. As you come down the red trail you will notice the field to your right. Take a right into the field. Cross the field and follow the trail left back to the Kellogg Environmental Center parking lot.
