***May 26, 2010 update - Final box w/logbook has been replaced. Hello Kitty is in a new location across the trail.***

This letterbox series was planted for fans of Hello Kitty and her friends in the Sanrio universe. The first Hello Kitty drawing was released in Nov. 1974. Happy 35th birthday Hello Kitty!

You will need to bring your own ink, preferably a colorful set of markers: Black, green, yellow, pink, blue & red. If you don't have markers, definitely bring ink pads in black, pink & blue.

Hello Kitty and her friends are hidden on an island on the Sudbury River called Simpson Park (the plantings here are maintained by the Simpson Park Garden Club). On street parking is permitted on nearby Haynes Road. You will then have to cross busy Central Street to the footbridge next to what is locally known as the Fenwick Street Dam (actually the Maxwell H. Fellows dam as indicated by the 1988 memorial). Be cautious with young children around the water's edge!

#1 - Badtz Maru - Cross the footbridge over the river. On your right, as the black railing comes to an end, you will notice a trail on the right. Cross a wooden plank bridge. Count 16 steps. On your right is a pair of 3-trunked trees. Stop here and walk 12 steps into the woods on the left, away from the river. There you will find a fallen tree with gnarled weathered roots. Badtz Maru is underneath!

#2 - Keroppi - Return to the trail. You will soon be able to see cars driving along the MassPike. Just before the trail turns left there will be a tall maple tree on the right side of the trail, and a sort of decrepit looking many branched (apple?) tree on the left of the trail. Keroppi is lurking behind the base of the lefthand tree, under sticks & leaves.

#3 - My Melody - Follow the trail along the river to the left. You will come to a tree arching over the water. Continue 12 steps. A large root across the path points left...follow it into the woods 10 steps, into a patch of green groundcover. An old crooked root & a rock guard My Melody.

#4 - Tippy - Continue on the trail away from the highway. You will see a dead tree bereft of bark on the right. Across the trail on the left is a toppled 2-trunk tree. Look inside to find Tippy.

#5 - Joey - The trail goes a little farther, then joins pavement. Go right on the paved trail to a mossy rotary. The tree here was planted in memory of Mimi Berman, a Framingham Rotarian, in 2008. Just before a small bridge, go off the trail to the left, down, then up onto a mossy knoll. On the left is an old rotting log. Joey is hiding under it about 3 feet along.

#6 - Hello Kitty - Return to the paved trail, back past the rotary. There is a grassy area on the right by the dam with a bench. On the opposing side of the path is an old telephone pole. Stand with the telephone pole on your left, then look to your right. Across the grass is a tall oak. Hello Kitty awaits behind it. Here you will find the logbook. Stamp in, enjoy the view of the river (or a picnic on the grass), then recover Hello Kitty's box well! Go back across the footbridge. Use caution crossing busy Central Street.
