Quarterbacks come and quarterbacks go. But I will always remain a Green Bay Packers fan, as long as the Pack and fans stay true to Vince Lombardi's ethic: We must always consider ourselves to be part of something bigger than ourselves. (Unfortunately, a certain very talented former QB's reputation will never be any bigger than his ego!) Anyway, the GO GREEN LETTERBOXES salute the Packers and two local organizations who work to be part of the larger community. O&G Industries continues to find creative ways to recycle construction debris. And Trout Unlimited continues to monitor and improve the quality and accessibility to the scenic Naugatuck River.

DIRECTIONS:

FROM RT 8 heading NORTH: Take Exit 23 to RT 42 EAST. Through the first traffic light, staying straight on Main Street. Past the sign on the right for Beacon Mill Apartments, then left over the metal bridge. First left onto Railroad Avenue. Travel almost to the end. On the right, look for the sign "Trail Parking" and take a left to park.

FROM RT 8 heading SOUTH: Take Exit 24 under the highway. Take a right onto Main Street; right again over th emetal bridge; first left following Railroad Avenue almost to the end; follow instructions above.

Begin at the "Trail Start: sign, following the blue blazes. The trail is very well-marked. You will pass a large branch sticking out into the trail from the left. Keep going until you come upon three giant pine trees. At the first tree, walk 15 paces to the right. The GREEN BAY PACKERS LETTERBOX is concealed in a pile of rocks. (This box contains the only logbook. Take the time to use the markers, and print the team emblem.)

Continue on the trail, following the blue blazes. Walk through the sandy area and up the slope behind the concrete factory. Take a left at the metal fence and follow the trail to a wooden bridge.

Turn around and walk 20 paces back up the trail you just walked. Do you see a large metal grate on your left? The O & G LETTERBOX is hidden next to the grate.

Continue on the trail until you come to the second wooden bridge. The TROUT UNLIMITED LETTERBOX is hidden uner the bridge. If you are in a hurry, take a right when you cross the bridge, and you will exit the woods into a parking lot, follow the railroad tracks until you come back to your car. (But Remember, "HASTE MAKES WASTE!) I recommend that you return the same way that you came, and enjoy the river a second time.
