~This stamp was originally carved about a year ago in honor of a rather famous Duc from around here. The stamp was used to make LTC's and then languished in a nice, warm closet for a while. Well, it is high time this duc made it out in the wild to be a "real" letterbox.

To get the image in the log book, you will need many different colored markers. If you do not wish to do that, please use a very light colored ink so that others after you will have the same choice.

Make your way to a rather new preserve on route 97 in Scotland. You will be looking for a brown wooden sign marking the beginning of the trail for the Pappenheimer Preserve. Coming from Sprague, towards Scotland, it will be on the right side shortly after crossing the town line and before Murphy Hill Road. You will need to get turned around and park on the opposite side though, as they do not wish for you to park on the trailhead side of the road.

After parking, CAREFULLY cross route 97 and head out on the blazed trail. This is a new preserve and the trails are definitely not worn in yet, but they are well marked.

At the first intersection, bear left. Walk along, crossing over a small stream along the way.

At the second intersection, bear left. Walk along, noting a stone wall to your left.

At the third intersection, bear left. Walk along, passing a large four sister Oak with a tiny Birch growing in its center. This is right next to the trail, on the left side.

Keep walking a short way and come to a right hand turn noted by a double blaze on a Beech tree.

After turning right, keep looking on the left for a large three sister Red Oak, off trail, a short way. This is a noticeable tree. Go to it and see that it is becoming one with the rock behind it. Look behind/under the trap door there to find what you are looking for.

After re-hiding the box securely, continue on the trail. Pass through a stone wall.

At the fourth intersection, bear left. Follow this all the way back to your car.

I hope you have enjoyed this preserve. I know my pups sure did.
