Four boxes along the Hidden Valley Preserve’s Van Sinderen Trail. The map board says this is a 3.5 miles loop. From the intersection of routes 47 and 109 in Washington Depot, go north on 47 towards New Preston for 1.1 miles and park in the large lot on the right, on the south side of the bridge. There’s only one log book (in the last box) and no ink but Black will do.

Walk past the map board (after taking a good look at it) and keeping the river on your left, follow the unblazed trail along the edge of the river. Eventually this trail hooks up with the yellow trail. Turn left here (with the river still on your left) and shortly come to a large foot bridge crossing the river. Stop and read the plaque (it explains the first stamp) then continue on yellow for 95 to 100 steps. Look right for a dirt mound covered with lots of small rocks. On top of this pile is a rock against the base of an Oak (?) tree. Behind this is Airborne.

Continue on yellow with the blazes thinning out along this long flat walk until you finally come to a turn to the right (almost going back the way you came) leaving the river behind. This is followed by a left turn and going uphill. This will lead you to a left turn into a gully where the Quartz Quarry is (or used to be). Quartz was mined here from the mid 1800's until 1915. After admiring this amazing quartz continue uphill and just before a left arrow, look left for a pile of rocks similar to the one hiding the first box, except this mound has more rock than dirt. Look in a cave at the base of a two sister tree for the Quartz Quarry letterbox.

Continue on yellow and now you start to really go up. You may pass a trail on the left closed because of timber harvesting. Stay straight even though yellow is tough to spot until you come to a rock wall semi circle. Is this the overlook?? Continue on and see a white house on the left (what a view they have) go straight across the open field, right at the arrow, right at another arrow and then a few ups and downs. Just before the crest of one of these ups is a large mossy ledge on the right. Approaching this ledge, pass a two sister tree and a tree with a rock at it’s base. Behind this tree a piece of ledge appears to have fallen and is sitting at the base of the ledge. Look behind here for the Pinnacle pouch (not at the pinnacle because of the one still there from many years ago).

Continue on and notice a blue trail going left (to Sabbaday Road). Now blue will join the yellow until blue leaves to go to the pinnacle on the left (a worthwhile side trip for a view). Continue on yellow, going down the “stairs” and coming to a four way intersection with two unblazed trails. Look right for an evergreen tree with a massive root system pointing towards the trail. Look in the roots in back of this tree for a trap door hiding the Bee Brook box.

Continue on yellow to get back to your car.
