Lake Tahoe Mini Letterbox

Once Lake Ponland, then Bigler Lake,
Now Lake Tahoe: from Wahoe take
“Da on a ga” ~ the word for “lake”.

Eighteen forty four, Valentine’s Day
At first sight, start the trail this way.
A lovely way to spend the day.

William Brewer mapped what he could.
The box is close, hunt where you should.
Look where Brockway and springs once stood.

Then look behind and to your right ~
Retaining wall, rock piled tight.
Safe from others, it’s out of sight.

Three steps more, wall ends by boulder.
Then squat down, knees to shoulder.
“Hide it here,” her boyfriend told her.

Against the boulder, near the ground,
A rock, square, brick-like can be found.
Part of wall, safe and sound.

Find the rock and pull straight out.
If you look and see dirt, don’t pout.
Reach in deep ~ it’s there. Have no doubt.

Once found, stamped, and hidden well,
Further down there’s a sight to tell.
A lake shows clear, through trees like pells.

The last sign down, an intrestin’ read.
Silver, timber, and iron steeds.
A beautiful hike, guaranteed.

About the box:
This box contains a hand carved stamp and is contained in a 35m film canister.
Please, please notify me if there is any damage to the box or if the box is missing as I only visit Incline Village a few times per year.
Any hunters that send me their letterboxing names and the date they found the box will be added to the site as successful letterbox hunters.

Directions:
Stateline Fire Lookout
This is an easy hike with a nice payoff at the top. Drive on SR 28 (Tahoe Blvd.) from Incline toward California on the north shore. Just before the California border, in Crystal Bay, there will be a road to the right called Beowawie Road. Follow this to Tuscarora Road, then right on Lake View. (Or you can ask the Crystal Bay Club where the “fire lookout” is and they will be able to tell you.) Park near the gate on the fire road but of course don't block the gate. An easy fifteen minute hike up the fire road will take you to the historic Stateline Point Lookout. This trail seems to be dog friendly (we saw a lot of well behaved leash free pups along the trail), but we also noticed a lot of poopies too, so we’re not sure of the poop-pack-out policy. I, personally, ask you to pack your pup’s poop if you bring your pooch.
