This very special letterbox has been set up as part of my Christmas gift for my niece, “Princess Gracie!” It is located at the Nathan Lester House in Gales Ferry, CT at the junction of Long Cove Road and Vinegar Hill Road. There is much to do at this location. You may want to bring a picnic lunch and eat in the beautiful Great Oak Garden. You can tour the 1793 house and barns that are full of items from the Colonial through the Victorian eras. (Memorial Day through Labor Day, Saturdays and Sundays 1 pm-4:30 pm or by appointment. The beautiful grounds are open year round but close at sunset.) Enjoy a hike or cross country skiing on the well-marked trails. Bicycles and dogs on leashes are welcome! This property was a source of exploration and adventure for my siblings, friends, and me while growing up and I hope to pass this amazing resource down to future generations!

Locate the parking lot marked for visitors and park here. Locate the large garden next to the white colonial house. As you climb the stone steps into the garden, continue to the back part of the garden. You should see a metal sundial atop a stone base. Behind this, there is a large, flattish rock. Behind the rock, there is a grove of rhododendron bushes. Behind the rhododendrons, there is a historic stone wall. Follow the stone wall to the left where it forms a corner with another wall. Squat down and look carefully at the bottom corner. You should be able to see a plastic container with a pink top. There is one rock that is very easy to remove that hides the letterbox. PLEASE do not disturb any other rocks in this historic wall! Be very careful moving the rock that protects the treasure and be sure to replace it as you find it. There is a special stamp, ink pad, notebook and pen for you to use. I would love to hear about your adventure and what else you decide to do at this special location! Please be sure to encourage the special princes and princesses in your life to join you in your letterboxing adventures!
