My father was born in 1926, so I grew up listening to a lot of Big Band music. This small letterbox is to commemorate Artie Shaw (1910-2004), jazz clarinetest. One of many things he did in his music career was to form a Navy service band in the South Pacific, where my father also played drums at night when not on duty in the Navy.

I originally planted this box after the Maule and Robin's Nest Mini Meet in Wellesley. It was a bitter cold evening. I decided the area I planted in was too exposed and frequented by dogs, and returned to move it a bit later.

You can park in the Playhouse Square lot at the corner of Forest St. and Washington St. (Bertucci's/T.RowePrice/Bodyscapes). Walk down Forest St, past house #46. Cross a brook and turn left, northeast, onto a dirt foot/bike path.

There is a bench on the left. Continue on the path for 45 paces. Notice the very large old tree on the left. Turn your back to the tree and walk across the trail to another big tree. Look behind it, to the left of a turquoise-gray rock, under leaves and sticks for Jazz Clarinet. Bring your own ink.
