I grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida not too far from the beach. I never realized how much I loved the beach until I moved to Gainesville to go to school. Now if I wanted to go to the beach, I had to make an all-day trip to St. Augustine. It was nice but very different from what I was used to back home. I have now graduated from the University and have moved back close by the beach in West Palm. I came to visit Gainesville recently and thought it would be a fun idea to plant a letterbox representing the place I love so much. Even though the beach is a couple of hours away from you, I hope you enjoy searching for the small waves I have brought to Gainesville.

Hogtown Creek Greenway is located across from Westside Park on the corner of 34th and 8th. To park, turn onto 8th avenue from 34th street passing Westside park on your Left. Turn left onto 31st street from 8th avenue. Continue to the 2nd turn-in on the left that leads to the parking lot. Following the parking lot around and park by the dumpsters. Get out of your car and walk back towards 8th Avenue. You will pass square posts and a black fence on your right. Cross 8th Avenue and you will enter in through the Hogtown Creek entrance. There is an information booth on you right hand side if you are interested in looking at the different plants and animals. Stay on the main trail. There will be smaller trails on the left and right of you, but do not be tempted to follow these paths. Continue up a small hill, with the creek on your left. Next, you will come to a wooden board walk. Follow the boardwalk until the end. You will then come back to a dirt path. There will be a small wooden observation deck with bike racks and a trash can on your right. Continue on the trail and you will see a small pathway on the left leading towards the creek. Follow this path until you reach a wooden bench. Sit on this bench and enjoy the quiet scenery. Once you are finished, get up and continue on the small pathway towards the right. You will come to the edge of the creek but you can carefully continue walking the path. You will only walk a few steps before reaching a large pine tree on your right. Walk towards the pine tree. Walk around to the other side of the tree and place your back against the trunk. From here, you will take 6 paces and come to a "Y" shaped tree on your right. This tree is covered with many different vines. Walk towards the tree and the Beach Box is located in a nook at the base of this tree. Please keep all plastic bags this the box for it needs to be protected from the elements.
