The 3 Myles of Letterboxes are 3 Letterboxes on a 3 mile loop along the East Head Reservoir Trail (EHR) in Myles Standish State Forest (MSSF) in Plymouth. MSSF is easily accessible by Rt 3 (Exit 5), I-495 (Exit 2), 58, 28, and 44. Just go to a map or map website and find it! Headquarters (HQ) is located on Cranberry Road in CARVER, even though the trail is in Plymouth.

If you are coming in from Long Pond Rd in Plymouth it will take you 10-15+ minutes to get to HQs once you enter MSSF. If coming from Cranberry Rd in Carver it will take you 2-3 minutes once you enter MSSF. Once you get to HQs, grab a trail map and a guide to the East Head Nature Trail (if it is open).

There are two other LBs hidden by other letterboxers on this trail. One is "Bridge to Nowhere" part of the Memorable Moments at Myles Series and the other is "East Head Reservoir" part of Myles Standish State Forest by Bill and Craig."

Pine Tree Letterbox (1/3)

Go to the bottom of the parking lot (where you pulled in) and there will be a gate on your left. Pass thru it. Walk over dirt bridge. You will see entrance to trail on left next to second gate. EHR Trail is marked by blue triangles, keep eyes open. Walk pass marker #1. Between #1 and #2 you will have to hop over 2 logs in trail. When you get to #2, stand with back to marker facing woods. There will be a large oak tree with 3 trunks about 15 steps off the trail right in front of you. Walk to it. Directly behind the oak is a stump about 10 feet away. Go to stump and the Pine Tree Letterbox is hidden right behind stump in leaves (dig around a bit). Stamp in and re-hide.

Lady's Slipper Letterbox (2/3)

Get back to trail and continue on past #3. Go over wooden bridge. Go past #4 with fire Rd to left-stay on EHR Trail, not fire road. Go thru stand of white pines then up a hill and pass #5 on top. Continue on and trail will split for about 10 steps ( making a little island of bushes). Go past #6. You will come to a T at the gas lines, go Left on the sandy trail. Two gates with a road between them will be in front of you. Before you reach gate, narrow trail will split to the left. Take that narrow trail. You will re-enter the woods between 2 stone pillars. Go past #7 and get on Boardwalk (BW). After you get off BW, trail splits, stay Left on trail. You will come to another BW. When you get to the end of this BW, STOP! Turn around and count back to the 14th board from the end you just stepped off of. There will be a stone/cement support under the 14th board. The Lady's Slipper Letterbox is under the 14ht board against the stone support. Stamp in and re-hide.

Scrub Oak Letterbox (3/3)

Continue on the way you were going before you STOPPED! After a few minutes, you will pass #8. Go by a clearing with a good view of EHR. The trail will soon start to get very narrow, especially if there are leaves on the bushes. Go by very old, falling-apart BW. Pass by #9. You will come to a Fork: Left to water, Right to road. Go RIGHT. When you get to the road, go left along the road. You will see a NO Parking sign and a Bike Xing sign on the other side of the road. Start counting your steps when you are equal to the Bike Xing sign. When you get to about 50 steps, you will see that the trail continues on the left. Take it and you will go down a hill and then up a hill and at the top will be a fork. Go Right. Down and then back up another hill past #10. Down and up again and EHR will be right in front of you. Stay on the main trail...follow the blue triangles. Pass #11. At #12, stand with marker to your back facing woods. Directly in front of you is a white pine, about 10' off the trail. To the Left of the pine is a grey birch with 5 main trunks. The Scrub Oak Letterbox is hidden behind that birch under leaves (dig around a little). Stamp in and re-hide.

Continue along trail pass #13, stay on main trail. From here to #14 you are never more than a stone's throw away from EHR so stay on the main trail along the water. After you pass #14, there will be a trail branching to the left. Stay straight..do not take the branch to the left. You will soon be back to the parking lot where you parked!!

Micro Boxes, so bring stamp pad and pen!
