This box was hidden in memory of our childhood days spent at Longbrook Park in the 1960s and 70s. Our summer months were spent at the playground and during the winter we would skate on Brewster Pond. We also played softball and watched football games there.
The meandering “long brook” weaves its way through the park. Alongside the brook are beautiful stone walls and bridges. There are many walking paths too. This Depression-era park is a classic example of a WPA project that transformed former swampland into a 34-acre park. Rock for the stone walls and bridges in the park was quarried from nearby Roosevelt Forest.
The letterbox is hidden at the southern end of the park. Atop a hill nearest a little stone arched bridge and built-in stone benches you will find several three-sistered trees. Just downhill from one of them will be a single, smaller, smooth-barked, tree. There you will find your treasure. Be sure to hide it well with sticks.
