The Pinnacle is the highest and most scenic peak (1683 feet) in Westminster, Vermont. It is located on the Windmill Ridge, straddling the Brookline/Westminster line. It has long been a favorite destination for quick overnight camping trips for our family since the kids were very small. Many fine memories of good times and spectacular views are part of our family history. It was the first place we ever found a letterbox (accidently). On the occasion of my birthday this year, which I would spend winter camping at the Pinnacle cabin, my daughter (Baby Earhart) made me a letterbox to plant at the Pinnacle.

Directions: From Putney center take Westminster West Road toward Westminster West center. At the whimsical signpost with distances to near and far locations, turn left on West Rd. At the first junction, continue to follow West Rd. to the left. Then take the next right on Windmill Hill Rd N. Continue past the sign that says it is no longer a town road and find the parking lot and trailhead to the Pinnacle. Follow the Holden trail (red trail markers) for about 1.5 miles to the Pinnacle cabin.

After enjoying the view, the letterbox can be found by starting at the door of the cabin and walking toward the outhouse. On a line from the corner of the cabin directly past the outhouse is a large old maple tree with a spreading canopy. The letterbox is nestled in the roots of this tree on the east side covered by bark. Please be discreet and re-hide completely as there are often many visitors here.
