Find the small parking lot across from 225 Mountain Rd, Hamden MA. Cross the street. To the right of pole #29/30 is a path. Take this path down and to the right for 150ft, until a 4-way intersection. Turn left, the path will wind down a hill to a stream.
The path from here is not heavily traveled, so I tried to make these directions as specific as possible, including lots of landmarks & compass headings, in case the path seems unclear. It’s really not as complicated as I’m about to make it look.
Cross the stream, you should see a large jumble of rocks here. Follow the path at a (compass heading of 200 degrees), along the stream, but staying on top of a ridge. The path veers left (to a compass heading of 180 degrees) at the large rotted log on the right of the path.
Passing 2 twin oaks on your right, continue along the path until there is a twin oak on your right and a cliff on your left overlooking the stream, count 30 steps. The path bends left (compass heading of 160 degrees), travel 11 steps along it. At a compass heading of 240 degrees, look for a grouping of 4 large hemlock trees – the largest trees out here. Starting under that grouping, go 10 steps in a compass heading of 160 degrees. This will put you onto a large flat rock.
Go on a compass heading of 90 degrees for 8 steps to a tree with a suspicious pile of rocks at the base. Prance is inside the base of this tree.
