Connecticut has Major Fairs, District Fairs, 4-H (county) Fairs and Local Fairs.
Major Fairs are the largest outdoor type of all-day fairs. They have exhibits of livestock, fruits & vegetables, flowers, baked goods, needlework, handcraft, and hobbies, with all ages represented. They also have commercial exhibits, amusement rides, animal and mechanical pulling events. FOOD is a big part of the fair.
There are photo contests, local and state, and baking contests, local and state. Businesses set up their products to sell at rental booths. Music, local entertainment and professional entertainment take place at the stages. And again, there is FOOD.
The Lebanon Lions Club has operated the Lebanon Country Fair since 1960. It takes place each year the weekend of the second Sunday in August. Originally, the fair started on the Lebanon Green and moved to its current location on Mack Road in 1970. Many of Connecticut’s charitable organizations benefit from money raised at the fair.
We mostly attend the Lebanon and Hebron Fairs as they both have maintained the country flair. In the 1980’s, at the Hebron Fair, my husband, our two daughters, and I have entered flowers, vegetables, canned goods, baked goods, crafts, hobbies, needlework, entered our rabbits and snakes, and entered the frog jumping contests.
The Lebanon Fair is on this road, just around the bend. Dates and times can be found at www.ctfairs.org
CLUES: From Lebanon center ( Routes 207 & 87 ), take Route 207 West toward Hebron, passing Lebanon Middle and High Schools and a GAS Station on the Left and see Mack Road on the Right. OR From Hebron/Amston ( Routes 85 & 207 ), travel Route 207 East toward Lebanon about 5 miles to Mack Road on the Left (if you pass the GAS Station on the right, you just passed the road. Take Mack Road about 1 mile to stop sign. Turn right and go about 1 mile again which is still Mack Road, passing a painted TOTUM POLE on the left… the Loomis Cemetery just down the road on the Right.
Go to the Loomis Cemetery sign and walk to the back wall. Turn Right and follow the wall 7 steps with your right foot only, ending close to the side wall, but not the corner, still the back wall, and you will find the Connecticut Fairs Letterbox. Please re hide well. Thank you.
