Aloha,

We have been visiting Kauai for 16 years and love it more each time we come. The south end of the island is called Sunny Poipu and this box will allow you to experience the beauty and warmth of the area.

This beach is very small and is a great place to play in the water with small children. When the seas are calm it is shallow and protected by the reef. Please remember to bring a plastic bag along so diapers are not left on the beach.......let's all keep Kauai clean. Mahalo and have a great safe time.

To find the letterbox travel to the south end of the island through Old Koloa Town. Enjoy the many fine eateries, grocery stores and conveniences of this historic town filled with friendly people. Continue through town to the Poipu Welcome Rock. Turn onto the round-about and turn right onto Lawai Road. Travel (posted speed 25 MPH) west on Lawai Road. You will pass the Beach House Restaurant (famous for sunset dinner view) and the snorkel beach just after it. This beach has some of the best snorkeling on the island.

Continue traveling west (you are almost there). About 1/8 mile west of the Beach House Restaurant, on the south side of the road, you will see a rock wall and an opening for a stairway down to a small beach. The rock wall is between house numbers 4914 and 4890 Lawai Road.

Park your car (away from the yellow fire hydrant) and walk down the stairway to the beach. At the bottom of the stairs turn immediately right, walk along the rock wall and then turn again to your right. You should now be facing the road, which means you are facing north, and to your right is the wall behind the stairway. The box (a green plastic bottle with screw on cap) can be found at the base of the north wall about 5 feet from the northeast (lower right) corner of the north wall. We left it on the ground against the wall under a black rock with white speckles on it. There may be some ground cover vegetation near the wall which helps add to the hiding place. Try not disturb the vegetation when you take and replace the box.

Take the box to your car, stamp-date-and-leave-a-note and then return it to its resting place under the rock. If other people are around be careful they don't see what you are doing as we don't want the box to disappear.

Enjoy the beach.
Aloha,
Sea Shaka
