Go to the corner of 6th and clay streets, and find the first and oldest water reservoir built in the early 1820’s . It’s empty now but it used to pump water 232 feet from the james river into a brick lined 600,000 gallon cistern. The statue in the middle has stood guard since 1886 and to this day has unknown origins.
Catbird: Park in front of the St. Pauls Parish house and walk to the corner of 6th and clay were you will find the sign that says “St Pauls Episcopal Parking. Stand behind that sign look to the lower left corner of the fence and find the magnetic keybox.

Next find 1219 Main Street and admire one of the oldest open air markets in the U.S. still in use since 1783.
Catfish: Find the Fish Fountain and look behind you. Find the parking space that has a heading reading “Parking for Community Market Staff”. Locate the lamp post nearest to this parking spot and with EXTREME CAUTION lift the base up the pole and uncover the magnetic keybox within. ***The best time to find this box is after 5pm anyday and all day on Sundays****
To wind up your tour of downtown Lynchburg we’ll end up at 1001 Church Street. This is the site of an original Belgium Block cobblestone street laid down in the late 1800’s.
Cat: Park and traverse the steps flanking the old road. Climb until you spy a “garden” off to your left. Sit down on the steps just at the entrance to the garden and take a breath. Look under the ivy on the rock wall to find the cat.
