This and other letterboxes in the Bremen Public Library are placed with the librarians' full knowledge and overwhelming approval. This box was originally placed for a letterbox event at the library and is now available to everyone. If clues for the other boxes aren't available online ask the children's librarian.

Dr Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Fifteen years of his early career was spent creating advertising campaigns for Standard Oil. As World War II approached his focus shifted to weekly political cartoons for PM magazine. He worked as a cartoonist for The Saturday Evening Post and also contributed to Life, Vanity Fair, and Judge. His big break into children's literature came when he illustrated a collection of children's sayings called Boners. The book was not a commercial success, however the illustrations received great reviews.

Dr. Seuss was challenged to write a story “first graders wouldn’t be able to put down.” That’s just what he did in 1957 using a vocabulary of only 236 words he wrote The Cat in the Hat and learning to read had never been so much fun. (check out The Cat in the Hat letterbox in the Argos library)

At the time of his death in 1991, Ted had written and illustrated 44 children's books. His books had been translated into more than 15 languages. Over 200 million copies had found their way into homes and hearts around the world.

The Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden with bronze sculptures of Dr. Seuss and his most beloved characters is located in his home town.

CLUES:
Your steps go down and past a short door,
They turn and go down seven steps more.

You've now entered a wonderfully inviting room
Where your imagination will surely bloom.

With slow steps or fast steps.
The right steps are diagonal steps.

On your right is the desk, on the left you see tables.
Reach a square pillar where computers are available.

Stop before another step you make
Turn, go east, twelve steps you take.

Then with slow steps or fast steps,
The right steps are south steps.

Step, step and step but at the wall you stop.
To the shelves on the right you turn than you hop.

Stoop and see where the Great Birthday Bird flies;
Where Yertle the Turtle and the Lorax resides.

Find Thing 1, Thing 2, Horton, Max and Mr. Knox;
Cat in the Hat and Sue that sews socks.

A small tin contains some special things.
And under the metal shelf it clings.

All comfy and cozy is the waiting treasure;
"Green Eggs and Ham" is for your pleasure.
