Find your way to West Street Cemetery AKA Wilcox Cemetery in Middletown. (Hint: It is not on West Street or even near West Street, but it is in a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982) Drive up the semi-circular drive and park at the stairs. Climb the stairs and turn right passing the obelisk of Elisha Wilcox and the tomb of Dennis Wilcox. Continue through the “field” of Wilcoxes and their relatives, with another Wilcox obelisk looming above, toward an old, brownstone-guarded entrance to the cemetery. Behind the right pillar, under a rock, is your leaf. Beware of the debris discarded here.
No ink or log book. Save a tree, and, in winter, save cold hands fiddling with rolled up paper stuffed tightly in a micro-box.
Dedicated to Happy Alice from Hampden, MA, who even has a namesake here.
