False Lily of the Valley is a low growing and common plant growing within shady moist forest floors. For a short article and some pictures see wikipedia:

To find the False Lily of the Valley Letterbox drive to the Avenue of the Giants parallel to Highway 101. Park in one of the turn-outs on either side of the road on the south end of Pepperwood at the start of the access trail to Newton B. Drury and Ralph W. Chaney Grove in the Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Follow the path through the redwood forest walking past H23, 24 and the rough hewn seat. When you reach a fork in the path some folks might take the right, some might take the left, but you’d best take the middle. At the Loop Trail sign head to the left over the bridge. At the termination of the bridge take approximately 67 steps down the trail at which point you will stand between two large redwoods. There you will also note a rotting log. Reach in about 15 inches and waist high on the side closest to the bridge. There behind rotted bark and wood debris you should find the False Lily of the Valley Letterbox.

It’s almost always damp in the redwoods so please close everything up tightly!

Enjoy the rest of the loop trail for a walk of 2.45 miles.
