Planted by: Amie (the Graceful Butterfly)

Place: Masmouquet State Park, Pomfret Connecticut.

Number of boxes: 1

Rated: Easy to Moderate

Directions: From 395 take exit 93 (turn left for south, right for north) and follow along Rt. 101. 101 will become 44 in Pomfret Center. Follow till you see the signs for Masmouquet State Park and take a left into the park. Then begin to follow the directions to find the letterboxes.

History: These letterboxes are planted for the Anniversary of my very best friends in the whole world, Holly and Duane Anderson. Holly and Duane were married on August 19th, 2000 at St. Josephs Church in Dayville. The reason I picked Masmouquet Park is because it is where we had the wedding pictures taken. It is a beautiful place and it was a wonderful wedding. I planted these letterboxes in celebration of their Anniversary and to thank them for always being there for me. They truly are and I hope will always be, my best friends.

Letterboxing Clues:

Only Box 1 is still there, I will add another logbook and perhaps change the box my next trip to Mashomoquet.

Enter the park and follow the road past the check in station. (Note that on Saturday and Sunday during the season you will have to pay to enter the park) Follow past the first big circular section in the roadway. Soon you will be traveling along the brook. Keep your eyes open for a small bridge with no side rails on the right side crossing the brook. When you see this bridge pull over and park your car. This bridge is the first place we took pictures the day of the wedding. So this is the perfect place to have to cross to find your first letterbox. You are going to want to cross over the bridge, but don’t forget to enjoy the beautiful scenery on the way. Once you have crossed over the bridge you are going to want to be looking for a tree to your right with yellow and blue blazes. Follow the trail past the tree with blue and yellow blazes. Soon you will see another bridge ahead of you on the trail. Go to this bridge but do not cross over it! Stand at the beginning of this bridge and take a compass reading of roundabout 160 degrees. In front of you at 300 degrees you will see a patch of about six trees. In back of this patch of trees is a solitary tree with a flat rock at its base. Under the rock, covered by sticks, bark, and other rocks is your first letterbox. After stamping in please re-hide her well and follow the trail back to your car.
