Difficulty: Easy
Distance to Letterbox: 15 yards

The La Bahia letterbox is located in the La Bahia Cemetery in what is left of La Bahia, Texas. It is located along the La Bahia Road. The La Bahía, Opelousas, or Lower Road was originally an east-west Indian trail in southwestern Louisiana and southeastern Texas and eventually extended to Washington-on-the-Brazos and Goliad. The Brazos River is thought to have been crossed at the mouth of the Navasota River in present Grimes County and the Colorado River near the site of present La Grange in Fayette County. The western portion of the road was laid out by the Spanish and was known as the Atascosito Road. The route was presumably known as early as 1690, when it was traveled by Alonso De León. It was known as the Opelousas Road during the nineteenth century, when it was used as a cattle trail.

Directions:
Traveling Hwy 290 from Brenham, go past Burton and in a few miles take the left exit on Hwy 237. Soon you will come to a white building on the right (the only building in La Bahia) and a road on the left. Turn left on this road (Boundry School Rd) and go down a little ways, then left into cemetery. Stay to the right going between the white buildings and the far right pathway near the fence. Stop before the tombstones ahead on your right (one is "Bergmann") and park.

To the Letterbox:
Find the large cedar tree along the fend near where you are parked. Walk to the left side of the trunk and find 2nd trunk behind it. Box is on top of the second trunk (about 5 ft high), with bark on top. Please cover it back up, and be careful of greenbriars.
