Letter Boxing Fun in Indian’s “First City”, Vincennes
Placed by Fun Seekers

Ouabache Trails Park (pronounced "Wabash", the name is the French Jesuit spelling from which "Wabash" was derived) is conveniently located just two miles north of Vincennes off Lower Fort Knox Road and is a 254-acre facility. Individuals can enjoy the 4½ miles of walking trails, the 5 shelter houses, the 4 playground areas and the ball field.

Directions to Ouabache Trails Park: N-bound on 6th street: from junction of N 6th St. and Executive Blvd. turn left in front of the old Executive Inn onto Executive Blvd., continue to the stop sign at the Tee road then turn right. Almost immediately turn back left. There will be an Ouabache Trails Park sign on the right side of the road. Continue a short distance past the Knox County Highway Department to Terre Haute Rd, turn left following the park signs to Old Lower Fort Knox Rd. which is right before the railroad crossing. Turn right onto this road and travel this road to the park entrance. (Approx. a mile)

Upon arriving at Ouabache Trails Park continue into the park until you reach a stop sign at a “Y”. Turn left into the lower level of the park then go until you see a volleyball court on the left, park here. Start your letterboxing adventure by walking up into the camp ground entrance. A very short distance on your right is a trail leading over a bridge, Trail #5. Take this hiking trail. The trail bends right and then left or up and down small inclines meandering through the park. Follow it until you cross another small bridge. Be careful as this bridge has small steps on and off itself. Continue up the 14 some steps, and further down the trail is a “Y” take the left arm of the trail. You will go a short distance and up another small incline. As the hill crests look straight down the trail and on the left is a good sized tree leaning way over to the left. Behind this tree approximately 14 paces off the trail is a smaller tree; the box is hidden at the base of this tree on the backside under some leaves and twigs. Please be discreet as many other trail hikers maybe around this site. You may want to continue on to follow the trails as it is a very beautiful walk. Enjoy!
