This clue is part of the Urbana Park District’s Wild About Parks Quest--celebrating the Anita Purves Nature Center’s 30th anniversary. The Quest runs 6/13/09-6/12/10, but the boxes will remain in place indefinitely. Prizes can be won during the Quest for those who find 10, 20, and 30 boxes. Those who locate all 30 will be entered into a grand prize drawing. For more information, and for clue booklets, visit www.urbanaparks.org.
901 Operations Building Clue
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 5 minutes
The Planning and Operations facility is located at 901 N. Broadway. This building is home base for the facility and grounds staff that keep all Urbana parks and facilities in tiptop shape. These staff provide many of the behind-the-scenes services that make Urbana Parks so great: trimming trees, planting flowers, repairing and maintaining facilities, mowing grass, and plowing roads and sidewalks. From the parking lot off Broadway Ave, seek the “Fat Boy” rock and memorial tree to the north. Once here, put your back to Broadway, and take twelve steps towards the tree line. You will find what you seek hidden inside a hollow tree trunk.
