This clue is part of the Urbana Park District’s Wild About Parks Quest--celebrating the Anita Purves Nature Center’s 30th anniversary. The Quest runs 6/13/09-6/12/10, but the boxes will remain in place indefinitely. Prizes can be won during the Quest for those who find 10, 20, and 30 boxes. Those who locate all 30 will be entered into a grand prize drawing. For more information, and for clue booklets, visit www.urbanaparks.org.

Chief Shemauger Park Clue
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 20 minutes

Cautions: This park is used for the Girls Softball and Youth T-Ball programs. Please do not try to locate the box during ballgames. (Check www.urbanaparks.org for a schedule.) This park is also a popular spot for people to park their cars in the shaded areas and relax during their lunch hours.

Chief Shemauger Park is located on Kerr Avenue east of Cunningham. Each ball diamond has a parking lot. Park in the first lot as you approach from Cunningham Avenue. Find the rock and plaque dedicated to Chief Shemauger. Then walk toward the park sign. From the sign, look back across the first ball diamond toward the southwest (back corner of the park) and see a basketball court. Walk toward the basketball court. You will see a fallen log at the edge of the wooded area. Step over this log; then walk 10 steps southwest into the wooded area. Turn left and see another fallen log parallel to your path. Look in the end pointing toward the cemetery to find your letterbox.
