WATERFALLS TWENTY-FOUR (replaced 5.12.2011)

Welcome to the end of the old trolley line between Trumbull and Bridgeport, CT. Welcome to Long Hill. Welcome to where my grandmother used to work at a nearby factory wrapping cigars from New Britain with the very best, highest quality CT tobacco. Welcome to Katz's IceHouse, Indian Ledge, Rails to Trails South and the old Parlor Rock Amusement Park.

DIRECTIONS: At the intersection of RT 25 (highway) and RT 111 (Monroe Tpke.), take a left if you were heading North; take a right if you were heading South. Follow Main Street until you come to Whitney Avenue and the Town Green. Take a left onto Whitney Avenue. (Plan to stop at Luigi's later for a snack!)

Proceed down the winding hill. Be looking for the "Rails to Trails Xing" sign on your right, and parking soon after before you cross the bridge. Park, and carefully cross back over Whitney Ave. to enter Parlor Rock Park.

Follow the paved trail until you come to the second break in the fence on your right. Leave the paved trail, descend toward the river and begin to enjoy the beautiful cascades. The trail is worn but not blazed. It comes to a small brook, running from the left. There are a few large trees that have fallen in recent storms. Go over or under one of these trees, and cross the brook. Ascend onto the ledge. Up and to the right. At the top of the ledge you will encounter Waterfalls Twenty-Four.

Facing the waterfall, look to your left, to the top of the hill. You should see a large rock with a very clear crack in it. Go to the rock, and line up with the crack at your right shoulder. Looking straight ahead now, you see three interlocking hemlock trees. At their bases to the right is a narrow flat rock, leaning on its side. The letterbox is hidden beneath this rock. Stamp in and conceal the box well, please. Enjoy the rest of the wooded trail before you return to the paved portion, and back to your car.
