When Columbia became the first capital of the Republic of Texas in 1836, a story-and-a-half clapboard structure built by Leman Kelsey in 1833 became the first capitol of Texas. Here Sam Houston took office as President and Stephen F. Austin as Secretary of State. In 1837 the Government moved to Houston, and in 1900 the Storm destroyed the original capitol. A replica was built in 1976, and nearby the Capitol of Texas Park was dedicated in 2009. It features a path connecting a series of granite monuments telling the history of the area.

Directions:
From Houston, go south on Hwy 288 to Angleton and turn right on SR 35. Go about 12 miles and turn right on 14th street and park by the replica of the first Capitol of TX.

Clues:
Walk to the front of the cabin and read the historical plaque. Now sit on the front step and look down to your left between the bush and porch. The microbox is under a rock and leaves. After finding the box, continue on SR 35 (Brazos Ave) for .3 miles to Capitol of TX Park in front of Walgreens at intersection with 17th street.
