FICO'S BOWLADROM HAS CLOSED AFTER MANY, MANY YEARS

THIS SERIES ADOPTED BY SAGACORN 3/2014.

Clue Have you ever bowled candlepins? This game is unique to New England, and part of Canada. It was invented in 1880 in Worcester Ma. By Justin White. It is very different from ten pins, or even duckpins, which is also a regional game. The pins are tall and thin. 14 ¾” tall and tapering to about 2 ¾ “ at the base. Any dead wood (pins lying on the lane after a ball is thrown) is in play. This makes for a most interesting game. The balls are very small compared to a 16 pound tenpin ball. The largest ball weighs 2.47 pounds.

We recently celebrated the 50th wedding anniversary of Irish Mc at Ficco’s bowling lanes in Franklin Ma. Our 15 member senior league and a few letterboxing friends were there for the occasion. To commemorate the event, we decided to place a letterbox there. The log book was stamped by the letter boxers, and signed by the bowlers.
To find this box simply walk or drive to Ficco’s which is located on Route 140 about half mile from Franklin center (going towards Wrentham). The Ficco brothers have agreed to have the box there at the front desk. Just go in and ask for it. But please wait if it is very busy while you are there. There are prizes for the first three finders (does not include those boxers who stamped early), but please take only one prize per group.
If you enjoy bowling and would like to join a league, anyone there can help you sign up. We are always looking for bowlers for our Wednesday morning “funtime” senior league.
