From I-95 North, take exit 91. At the bottom of the ramp take a right. Drive for about 1.5 miles and take a right onto Wheeler Road. Pass the Pequot Golf Club and look for a left hand turn onto Dawley Drive.
From Rte. 184 East head toward Westerly. You will intersect Rte. 201. Wheeler road will be on the right hand side, just past Al Harvey Road. Follow Wheeler road to Dawley Drive on your right.
Once on Dawley Drive, you will only travel for about .5 miles. Drive slowly, you will see a field on the left hand side. The Jonathan Wheeler Cemetery is in the back. You will see the white sign from the road. You can drive your car to the right of the field up to the cemetery.
Once there, enter through the gates.
Clue 1, find the final resting place of Jonathan Wheeler buried Oct. 8, 1790. After paying your respects, as you are facing his stone, face diagonally to your right. Clue 2, pace out 35 paces to the resting place of Esther Ann, wife of Gilbert Wheeler. While standing in front of her stone, look to the back stone wall. Clue 3 look carefully, you will notice two granite posts that mark the original entrance to the cemetery. In front of one of these posts is the box, hidden behind some stones. Enjoy! Please respect this sacred place.
