From the intersection of Route 44 and Route 198 (Phoenixville) go west on Rte 44 for 8/10ths of a mile. As soon as you cross Bigelow Brook, park on the right side of the road by the blue oval sign for the Natchaug Trail. Carefully cross the road and enter the trail which is as wide as a driveway at this point. Follow the cart path for about 10 minutes. You come to a stone wall that goes off to the left, and an area where the path has been repaired with small rocks. Continue straight ahead, watching carefully, as the blue trail takes a sharp right in less than 100 feet. (And so do you.)

Now you proceed single file up, down and around. You will pass a strange 3-sided stone wall below ground level on your left. (Maybe an old foundation for a small building?)
We might have hidden the box in the wall but we noticed poison ivy growing down there. Keep going.

Soon the trail opens to double wide again and goes uphill towards a tall evergreen. However, the trail goes left before you get to it. This left turn is across from an evergreen with 2 blue blazes on it. Go to the first double evergreen, one of which has a blue blaze. (If you can see the brook again you have gone too far.) About 50 feet off the trail to the right is an unusual, many-trunked evergreen. Go around to the back of that interesting tree and you will “Catch a Wave” in the crotch, hidden under some bark.

When you have finished stamping please replace carefully and check to make sure it can’t be seen from in front of the tree. Retrace your steps to return to your car.
This walk only takes about 30 minutes plus stamping time.

We hope you had fun and that you’ll continue to look for the rest of this series as we plant them.
