Macrocystis is a genus of kelp which grow all along the Pacific Coast. To find more information on macrocystis please see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macrocystis

To find the Macrocystis Letterbox head a few miles north of Mendocino to the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse Station Historic Park. Park and read the map posted at the Visitor’s Center.

Find the cove wherein the Frolic ran aground. There are a couple ways to access this spot. However you go it’s a lovely walk. Once there locate the informational board. From there walk about 58 steps on the path going northeast until you run into the man-made structure. Check under this structure at the southeast corner.

*Kind letterboxer reports a little change after geocachers went through! Check "under log #4 on right hand side as you're looking at it." Also reports a piece of concrete in front of the log.

Replace carefully and discretely after stamping in. It is particularly important in this wet spot to reclose box making sure all the loose plastic bag ends are completely inside the letterbox so as not to introduce moisture.

Thanks for coming!!
