This box is to celebrate the book by John Sheirer by the same name as the letterbox. Mr. Sheirer had the idea to walk the blue trail at McCanns Family Farm located on Rt. 190 in Somers Ct. every day for a year. He wrote an essay of 365 words on each days adventure. This book is not exactly a nature book, but more of a diary of how this endeavor affected his life.
The McCann Family Farm is located on Rte. 190 in Somers about 2 tenths of a mile west of Gulf Rd. or about .2 mile east of the junction with Rte. 83.
From the parking lot procede down the trail marked with blue and yellow arrows.Go downhill, cross a field and a stream.Keep "welcome" on your right. Cross more bog bridges. The author helped to build some of these bridges. Keep tree with multiple arrows and "parking"sign on your left. Pass a field on your right, cross a cart path. Go past a swamp to your right with several magnificent trees leaning over it. Cross a small bridge. You will come to a stream (Gulf Stream, real name). Over the bridge, go left on the blue trail. When you reach a log bridge, (trail does not cross it), look right, 30 feet uphill. The Loop Trail letterbox is in the end of the fallen log to the left of the gnarled dead tree. Please replace as you found it.
Follow the blue trail back to the start.
If you are also looking for "Who's Watching You" letterbox, go back to the tree with the multiple arrows and go left. I don't know what a "wolf" tree is, but you will find the pointy rock with no problem. I did.
I have a copy of the Loop Year book if anyone would like to read it.
