Go to thee Roosevelt Forest main Parking lot from Peters Lane. Get a trail map from:http://borntoexplore.org/trails/Roosevelt_Forest.htm
This also shows alternative ways to get into the forest. I’ve parked here for years and never been bothered; they only care about the beach area. This may be important for two reasons. 1-the gate might be locked 2-all the signs on the way in have you spooked. The web site talks about it, and shows alternative ways in. The one on Beaver Dam Road, if you take this you will come in on blue, follow this and it will bring you to the main gate the back way.
Go from the main gate and head down the main trail till it splits into a Blue and Yellow. Take the Yellow and follow this crossing a clearing and re-entering the woods. It will split again but bear left staying on Yellow going over and down some inclines. As you go up a rocky incline with some large glacier rock droppings on the left, a little further on your right will be a tall sentinel stone with an almost perfect split. Stand in front of the split with your back to it and look ahead into the forest you will see a large boulder. Take about 20 steps to it and look for the tree growing right on top of it. Mr. T messed some dude up who was littering at the junction of the trunk and boulder.
Continue on Yellow trail till it splits again. Bear left staying on Yellow, cross the clearing and re-enter woods. As soon as you enter there will be an unmarked trail to the left. There is a large rock being held up by another forming a small cave underneath. Inside the cave on a ledge is a rotting branch that shouldn’t be there. This is where Mr. T went to get out of the rain. Back on yellow and follow to a “T” with the Blue. Lake a left and the Blue will lead you back to the main lot.
